The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to issue new meat licenses and renew the old ones for opening slaughter houses in state.

ALLAHABAD HCThe court made it clear that right to non-vegetarian food cannot be denied to the citizen and it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure construction of slaughterhouses and resolve the crisis. The High Court has sought for information by the government and related departments including DMs and Municipal Commissioners on July 17.

Hearing a bunch of litigation regarding the operations of slaughterhouses, the high court divisional bench comprising justice AP Shahi and justice Sanjay Harkauli had reserved the judgment for today.

It may be recalled that soon after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state on March 19 Yogi Adityanath imposed a blanket ban on all illegal slaughterhouses in the state.The BJP had promised in its manifesto –Lok Kalyankari Sankalp Patra for UP elections action against such meat shops and slaughterhouses.

The government time and again said no slaughter houses against NGT norms and Supreme court direction will run in state. After the government announcement, slaughterhouse owners and meat sellers across the state shut their shops which was closely followed by an indefinite strike call by different associations
