Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the people to co-operate with the government in its fight against militancy and terrorism in order to maintain peace and development in the country.

Hasina was speaking yesterday in the Parliament during a discussion on 67th founding anniversary of the ruling Awami League. The premier said though some elements are hatching conspiracies, her government is determined to move forward to build the ‘Sonar Bangla’ that Banglabandhu Sheikh Mujib dreamt about.

In the face of a recent wave of targeted killings of minority community members, secular and free-thinking bloggers and writers, rights activists and even police family members, Hasina has vowed repeatedly that her government will do everything necessary to fight militancy, whilst linking the violence to the opposition. The Bangladesh police arrested over 11000 wanted criminals including 197 suspected militants in pursuance of the government’s policy of zero tolerance towards militancy.
