Jat agitation: Three killed in fresh violence in Sonepat, toll 19

With the killing of three persons in clash with army and paramilitary personnel in Sonipat, the death tolls due to Jats’ agitation in Harayana has gone up to 19. More than 200 people have been injured in the clashes at different places in the state.

Efforts to reopen the crucial highway failed with the protestors putting up blockade at several places between Panipat and Delhi. The highway connects Delhi with North India, including Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

Shortly after clearance of the National Highway, protestors gathered on the highway at Ladsoli, between Ganaur and Murthal.

According to Police nine injured have been admitted to PGI, Khanpur near Sonipat. Sonipat Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Rattan said the mob pelted stones on the army and paramilitary personnel and used batons and other things, leaving many of the security forces injured in the process. Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, however, while confirming that fresh clashes broke out in Sonipat, only maintained that there were some casualties.

The Jat agitators again blocked a number of roads and rail tracks in the state including Ambala-Delhi Highway and Rohtak-Jhajjar road. Ambala-Delhi rail line has been blocked near Gohana disrupting rail traffic. According to railway authorities at Ambala, around 60 trains have been cancelled today.

The agitators have also reportedly stopped water supply to Delhi from Western Yamuna link canal at Khubro village near Gannaur. Curfew was imposed in Kaithal today after a mob vandalised Padma Mall and looted the shops. Curfew was lifted in Hisar and Hansi and one-hour relaxation was given in Rohtak town.

The Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said in a press conference at Chandigarh that in the cabinet meeting it has been decided that the loss occurred to private properties will be assessed and compensated. On reservation he said that the opposition leaders will also be taken into confidence while preparing the draft for the bill for reservation to Jats in the state, which will be tabled in the coming Assembly session.

Haryana government has decided to provide Rs 10 lakh grant to the kins of the innocents who were killed in the Jat agitation. The government will also give government jobs to one member of family members of each innocent deceased, informed Agriculture minister OP Dhankhar today. Meawnhile, Haryana government has informed Union government that the state has suffered about 20,000 Crore rupees loss due to the Jat agitation in the state and sought financial assistance.

A spokesman of All India Jat Aarakshan Sanghursh Samiti Ram Bhagat Malik told that they would hold a meeting in the evening to decide on the future course of action.
