Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has appealed the Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari to action against Congress MPs Jairam Ramesh and Renuka Chaudhary.
In a letter to Ansari , she accused the two members of humiliating her in the House.
Reportedly on Friday, when the Rajya Sabha was adjourned over the Bhagwant Mann’s video recording incident, there were hot talks among Ms Badal and the two Congress MPs.
In her letter, the Minister accused Mr. Ramesh and Ms. Chaudhary of using derogatory remarks against her and violating her dignity both as a woman and a minister. She said the act had hurt her deeply and urged the Chairman to take stern action against them to protect healthy democratic traditions.
In further development, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has also accused Congress MPs Jairam Ramesh and Renuka Chowdhury of misbehaving with SAD member and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. In the Rajya Sabha , the SAD MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa demanded in the House that the two leaders should apologise for their behaviour or face privilege motion.
He was referring to the issue of an alleged spat between the Congress leaders and Minister after the Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Friday afternoon due to ruckus over AAP MP Bhagwant Mann’s video recording of Parliament House. Mr. Dhinsa said a minister has the right to speak in any House and the permission for the same was strictly between the Chair and Minister.
As the Congress members contested Mr. Dhindsa’s remarks, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said a minister or a member can speak only with the permission of the Chair. Mr. Kurien, who was in the Chair on Friday, said he had first allowed introduction of a private member bills and so did not allow the minister to speak.
He said Chairman Hamid Ansari is seized of the matter. Anand Sharma of Congress said the minister has every right to speak in either House of Parliament on a bill or a discussion. But the issue was whether a minister, who is not a member of this House, raise an issue during zero hour.
