The number of deaths due to the consumption of chemical-laced liquor or spurious liquor in Gujarat’s Botad district has gone up 29 . Over 45 people have been shifted to Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad for further treatment.

Gujarat government today set up a three-member committee to look into the incident of chemical misuse in Botad district.

The Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said the three-member committee will be headed by IGP Subhash Trivedi. The committee will examine the reasons behind the incident and will hand over its report within three days to the government. The two other members include Director of Prohibition and Excise M A Gandhi and Director of Forensic Science Laboratory H. P. Sanghavi.  

The death toll has gone up to 29. Over 45 people have been shifted to Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad for further treatment. Most of the deceased belong to various villages of Botad and some are from rural parts of Ahmedabad district. ,

Earlier, addressing a Press conference in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia said three FIRs have been filed against 14 people on charge of murder and other offences, and most of them have been detained by the Police in two days. Mr Bhatia said Police have also seized 460 litres of chemical which is established as Methyl Alcohol in the forensic report.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Sukhram Rathava and Congress State President Jagdish Thakor visited Bhavnagar and Rojid village and met the family members of the deceased.
