AMN / NEW DELHI

UNION Home Minister Rajnath Singh today asserted that the guilty will not be spared in the reported rape incidents in shelter homes for girls in Deoria and Muzaffarpur.

Responding to SP, RJD and Congress members who raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Singh said, such incidents anywhere are shameful and unfortunate. He said he will ask the concerned Ministry to issue an advisory to state governments asking them to take measures to prevent such incidents.

The Minister said prompt action has been taken by the UP government in Deoria incident. The District Planning Officer was suspended and the lady who was running the shelter home and her husband have been arrested. He said state government has also ordered an inquiry by the Additional Chief Secretary and the Additional DGP in the matter.

Earlier, Mr Dharmendra Yadav of SP raised the issue and demanded strict action against the culprits in the case. Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress demanded that a Parliamentary Team should be sent to all states including UP and Bihar for the inspection of girl shelter homes to know the facts behind such incidents.

Earlier, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan also expressed concern over the incidents and asked the MPs to see the condition of girl shelter homes in their districts.

Not satisfied with the reply of the Home Minister, the members from Congress, TMC, SP, RJD, and NCP staged a walk out.
