Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the BJP was leading a clean government at the Centre as against the previous UPA regime that was steeped in corruption.
Addressing a mega election rally in Chennai today, he said the Centre has been responsible in its functioning as reflected in the fact that the Centre was rushing aid to whichever region struck by disasters including Chennai that was recently affected by flood.
Mr Modi took jibe at the Congress saying it is angered by a ruling of an Italy court on the AgustaWestland chopper deal. He said those guilty in the issue should be punished.
He recalled his recent visit to war-torn Jaffna in Sri lanka as the first Prime Minister ever to do so and added, 30,000 homes out of the 50000 units planned have been handed over to the affected Tamils.
The Centre’s proactive role secured the release of five Indian Tamil fishermen who faced execution, he said. Mr Modi also pointed out the rescue of Indian missionary Prem hailing from Tamil Nadu from the captivity of Taliban in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister asked people if they wanted such a government that works for their welfare or an insensitive rule that put people into misery. IMF and other credit rating agencies say India is a beacon of hope in sulking global economy due the concerted efforts of the Cente, he said.
Making banks accessible to the poorest of the poor, constructing toilets in all schools to check drop out of girl children, and many other schemes remain as testimony to the good governance, he said.
Saying Tamil Nadu is witnessing bad governance for long, Prime Minister Modi asked voters to make a change in the forthcoming assembly election.
Earlier, in the election rally in the industrial town of Hosur in North-Western Tamil Nadu in support of BJP candidates, he said the DMK and the AIADMK governments that alternate in the state for the last many years have made corruption to take monstrous proportions.
He said his Government i s working towards a Digital India whereas the previous government got mired in 2G scam. Saying that the Union Government is working towards the overall development of the poor, he pointed out the Mudra scheme, Start Up India and Stand Up India. While coal blocks were sources of looting earlier, their auctioning now have led to generating revenues for uplifting the poor, Mr Modi said.
