Government has turned education into business: Sibal
Our Correspondent /New Delhi
Congress party today accused the Union Government for giving shelter to the ‘exam mafia’, thus playing with the future of the students. It held Narendra Modi Government responsible for the leak in the recent CBSE class 10 and 12 exam papers.
Talking to journalsists here, AICC senior spokesperson and former HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, ‘the Government should explain under whose pressure it changed the pattern for setting examinations papers for the CBSE board exams. It should explain at whose bidding was the traditional and secure system of setting examinations was made insecure. If it was the Government’s own decision, it should tell the country what was the need to change the pattern for setting the papers.’
Terming the Modi government as a ‘weak ‘ government on every front, he said, ‘under the rule of this government all kinds of leaks — be it data leak, Aadhaar leak and paper leaks — are happening. First the SSC paper leak destroyed the future of students appearing for the exam in the hope of jobs and now the CBSE paper leaks have put a question mark on the future of lakhs of students.’
Taking a jibe at the Government on the paper leak, he said, ‘how can a government which cannot ensure the security of the question papers ensure the security of the country.’

He said the scrapping of the CBSE class 10 math and class 12 economics examinations has caused a lot of pain for the students and their parents.
‘The students will now have to appear for a retest. The pain that they and their parents are going through is something which only they will be able to understand,’ he said.
Mr Sibal said that this government had turned education into a business.
‘In Uttarakhand, the state government has made a sharp increase in the fees for the medical college, from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 24 lakh. In almost every country, education is almost free of cost. In fact, in Germany it is totally free.
The countries which charge fees from students for education provide facilities to students for finance assistance to aid their education. However, the Modi government lives in its own world and is unable to see all these changes in the world,’ Mr Sibal said.
Charging the government with attacking democratic institutions, Mr Sibal said, ‘after lowering the dignity of the Parliament, the Modi government is now trying to destroy media and Judiciary.
