NEW DELHI: (AMN) Centre has expressed concern over the spread of Left-wing extremism in some of the more backward areas of the country and stressed the need to curb the menace. Addressing the 71st annual parade of the CRPF here today, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said it was matter of concern but security forces have to be on maximum alert. He reiterated that government will not tolerate the killing of innocents. Mukherjee said the, government is committed to make all the necessary facilities available to the para-military forces to achieve their professional targets.
On the other hand Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday reviewed anti-naxal operations in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district. In a brief visit to the naxal-affected district, Chidambaram took stock of the preparedness of security forces in tackling the menace.
The Union Home Minister held a close-door meeting with State Home Minister RR Patil, Minister of State for Home Pratik Patil, DGP D Sivanandan and other senior officers of the revenue and police departments. This was the first ever visit by a Union Home Minister to Gadchiroli. The Union Minister also met the local MLAs and MLCs individually later.
