According to the latest estimate of the Agriculture Ministry, the country produced 241.56 million tonne of foodgrains in 2010-11 of which wheat’s share was 85.93 million tonnes.

Commending the work done by agri-scientists, Mr. Rawat said so far 378 varieties of wheat had been released for cultivation under different agro-climatic conditions.

A four-day workshop is being also organised by Indian Agricultural Research Institute and Directorate of Wheat research. Scientists from various farm research institutions within the country as well as scientists from Mexico and Australia are participating in the workshop.
