The Government has approved a proposal to increase wages of artisans by over 36 per cent, from five rupees 50 paisa per hank to seven rupees 50 paisa.

In a statement issued today, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, KVIC, said its proposal for hike in wages to Khadi spinners along with payment of government subsidy, has been approved with effect from the 15th of last month.

KVIC Chairman V K Saxena said the enhancement in wages will draw youth towards taking up spinning as a profession. He said, this increase will also attract new and younger artisans to Khadi.
