The Union government has approved 35 proposals for setting up of State Cancer Institutes and Tertiary Care Cancer Centres in different parts of India.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey said that these proposals have been approved under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke. Mr Choubey also informed that the Department of Biotechnology and Cancer Research UK have joined hands for a five-year research initiative towards affordable approaches to cancer-focused on finding affordable treatment to cancer patients.

He said, around 15.86 lakh cancer cases have been reported in 2018. He said, a multi-centric study to asses exposure and health effects of Pesticides has recently been initiated by Indian Council Medical Research.
Ashwini Kumar Choubey also informed the House that more than 61 lakh hospital admission were reported till 20th of this month under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Mr Choubey said, over 10 lakh hospital admissions were reported in Gujarat followed by Tamil Nadu and Chattisgarh.

He said, 1392 treatment packages are available under this scheme at the empanelled hospitals.

The Minister said, the scheme is cashless and the beneficiary is not required to pay for availing the benefits.
