The government is open for discussion in Parliament on the reported growing intolerance. Sources in Government said that there was no reason for the government to be defensive on the issue. They said if opposition wants discussion the centre would not mind though the issues are state subjects.

At a meeting held in New Delhi today, senior Union Ministers deliberated on recent incidents including Dadri lynching and killing of rationalist M M Kalburgi.

Based on these incidents a campaign of rising intolerance is on and opposition parties are ready to raise the issue in Parliament to corner the government. The top ministers felt that such incidents are strictly in the domain of states and the NDA government and BJP have nothing to do with them and Prime Minister have responded in the matter.

The meeting which was convened to discuss issues and strategy for the Winter session was attended by Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitely, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu and Manohar Parrikar. Legislative proposals to be brought before consideration of both the Houses which include GST and Real Estate Regulation Bills were discussed. They also reviewed the efforts being made to reach out to the opposition in respect of GST Bill and decided to continue with the same. Sources added that the government would also be willing to facilitate discussion on any matter of larger concern sought to be raised by opposition.
