Google today paid tributes to eminent cartoonist R K Laxman on his 95th birth anniversary with a doodle. The doodle depicts, the cartoonist himself, seated in front of the easel busy sketching his famous “common man”. The doodle is in the form of a pencil sketch, in black and white, much like the work of Laxman himself, whose pocket cartoons titled “You said it” used to appear on the front page of the Times of India for decades from 1951 onwards.
Laxman, who passed away in Pune, where he settled down after retirement, on January 15 this year had been honoured with several awards during his lifetime, the foremost being the Padma Vibhushan in 2005.
