Tamil Nadu chief minister J.Jayalalithaa today inaugurated The Global Investors Meet at a colourful event in Chennai Trade Centre. Over 5000 delegates including a thousand from abroad are attending the two-day summit. Ms Jayalalithaa said in her address that the targeted investment commitment of one-lakh crore rupees in the meeting has already been exceeded. Nine countries have registered themselves as partner nations for the event.

Jayalalithaa, termed the state as very strong in terms of Gross State Domestic Product, FDI, number of industries and employment potentials and the aim is to achieve per capita income at par with those in the highly developed nations.

Ms Nirmala Sitaraman, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry said the Global Investors Summit would give a boost to the Make in India initiative of the Union Government.

Mr Pon.Radhakrishnan, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping said the Centre would develop the natural harbor at Colachel near Kanyakumari as a major transshipment hub.

Captains of Indian industry and global corporates, ambassadors and high commissioners of the partner nations and representatives of Indian and global industrial bodies are present in the mega investment meet.
