Refusing to vacate the protest site, thev Women protesters of Shaheen Bagh today categorically told the Supreme Court-appointed mediation panel members that ‘it would be better to get them killed’ than to snatch their rights of protest at a public place from them.

Responding to questions from two of the mediation panel members-advocates Sadhana Ramachandran and Sanjay Hegde-two burqa wearing women protesters said, “Get us killed but don’t snatch our rights from us”. The third interlocutor on the panel-retired bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah-reached the venue immediately after Ramachandran and Hegde left the venue, telling the protesters that they would return again tomorrow and be coming daily to talk to them till Sunday as they have to submit their report to the apex court on Monday.

“The apex court has sent the interlocutors to us because the protesters are occupying a road blocking traffic. Supposing we vacate the road, do you think the SC would send a panel to talk to us. If we shift to a park or some other place, nobody will bother about us even if we continue to protest there for years. Get us killed but don’t snatch our right to protest at public place from us”, the emotionally charged protesters told the SC-appointed mediation panel.
