Former Uttar Pradesh Minister and Samajwadi party leader Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, an accused in a gang rape case, was arrested from his residence in Lucknow today.
ADG Police (Law and order) Daljeet Chaudhry told media that Prajapati, who was absconding, was arrested and sent to Alambagh police station for interrogation. He was produced before a court, which sent him to a 14-day judicial custody.
With Prajapati’s arrest, all the accused named in the FIR lodged in the case have been nabbed.
Prajapati’s son and nephew were interrogated by Lucknow police yesterday to know about the whereabouts of the former UP Minister. Three more accomplices of Prajapati – his two aides and his security guard, were also nabbed.
Based on a Supreme Court directive, an FIR was lodged against the minister and six others last month for allegedly gang-raping a woman and attempting to rape her daughter. The apex court had asked the state police to submit an action taken report within eight weeks.
