Known as Super Cop, Former Punjab DGP KPS Gill passed away on Friday in a Delhi hospital. He was 82. Gill served twice as DGP of Punjab and is credited with having brought the Punjab insurgency under control. KPS Gill retired from the IPS in 1995.
Gill was also president of the Institute for Conflict Management and president of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF). He received the Padma Shri in 1989 for his work in civil service.

He was called the super cop for his work in Punjab, where he was the Director General of Police from 1988 to 1990 and then again from 1991 until his retirement from the Indian Police Service in 1995.

PM condoles the demise of  Gill

The Prime Minister,  Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of KPS Gill.

“KPS Gill will be remembered for his service to our nation in the fields of policing and security. Pained by his demise. My condolences”, the Prime Minister said.

We deeply mourn the sad demise of iconic IPS officer, the legendary . His work in defeating Punjab militancy will always inspire us.
