Former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal and Senior leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Bharat Mohan Adhikari passed away last night. He was 83. Adhikari was admitted to a hospital in Kathmandu following lung and chest complications. Mr Adhikari was very popular among the common people for introducing “Aafno Gaun Aafai Banau”, a development programme aimed at developing villages across the country by giving them the authority to select local projects on their own.
The scheme was launched in 1995 when he was Finance Minister in the Manmohan Adhikari government.
Prime Minister and NCP Co-Chair KP Sharma Oli has expressed condolences on the demise of Mr Adhikari.
Former Prime Minister and Co-Chairman of NCP Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has also expressed his condolences.
The former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal will be cremated in Kathmandu today.
