The flood situation remain grim in Bihar. Flood water is spreading in low-lying areas following the rise in water level of Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Bagamati and Adhwara group of rivers.

In Muzaffarpur, an embankment of Tirhut canal breached in Mohammadpur Kothi Panchayat area under Sakra Police Station inundating several adjoining villages near Pilkhu village under Muraul block of the district. Similarly, ring bund breached Birne village under Kewati block of Darbhanga district.

Over 55 lakh people spread over 14 districts are reeling under the impact of devastating floods. The situation is worse in Darbhanga district where about 17 lakh people have been affected. Other districts where the situation is grim are Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Sitamarhi and East Champaran.

Villages spread over 1,059 Panchayats have been cut off from district headquarters. Rail traffic remained suspended on Darbhanga-Samastipur section of East Central Railway following overtopping of railway track. Vehicular traffic at several places in Darbhanga, Samastipur, Saran and East Champaran has been disrupted.

Relief and rescue operations have been intensified. In all, 31 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into service. Over four lakh people have been evacuated so far. Thirty thousand people are taking shelter in relief camps.

One thousand three hundred 85 community kitchens have been set up to provide food to over nine lakh thirty thousand people. Gandak, Bagmati, Kamlabalan, Mahananda and Adhwara group of rivers are flowing above danger marks. The Met Department warns moderate to heavy rain across northern parts of the state in the next 24 hours.
