Flood fury continues in 14 districts of Bihar. The swirling water of Bagamati, Kamla Balan and Burhi Gandak has engulfed fresh areas of Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur.
Rains in North Bihar have further aggravated the situation. Gandak is posing a threat to its embankment at several places. Train services on Darbhanga- Samastipur section remained suspended. Long route trains have been diverted on alternative routes.
Over 45 lakh people spread over 1012 panchayats are reeling under the impact of flood. The worst affected district is Darbhanga where over 15 lakh people have been affected by flood. The flood situation is grim in Gopalganj, Saran, Khagaria, East and West Champaran.
Relief and rescue operations are on in full swing. 30 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into service. About four lakh people have been evacuated so far. Thirty thousand affected people have taken shelter in relief camps. Over 77 thousand community kitchens have been set up for providing food to affected people.
Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamlabalan and Adhwara group of rivers are flowing above danger marks. The Met Department has predicted heavy rainfall in catchment areas of Nepal and northern parts of Bihar.
