NEW DELHI (AMN): There is not let up in flood situation in many part of the Uttar Pradesh as major rivers, including the Ganga, Ramganga, Yamuna, Ghaghra, Sharda and Kosi, were flowing above the danger mark at several places.
More than 400 have been killed in the state during current spell of flood. According to All India Radio flood situation has again worsened in western and Terai districts after heavy release of water from different barrages, including Hathinikund, Narora, and Banbasa. In Moradabad, one lakh people have been shifted to safer places while in Bijnore 35,000 people are staying at 84 relief camps.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has released additional Rs 3 crore each for relief and rescue operations at badly flood-hit Bijnore, Badaun and Shahjahanpur districts.
Almost 60,000 people were moved to the relief centres in Rampur. In Bareilly, 3,083 houses in 525 villages were damaged as Ram Ganga river was in rising trend.
The flood situation is improving in Haryana. The flood water has started receding in submerged villages of Karnal, Panipat, Palwal and other districts. In Yamuna Nagar, breach on Belgarh bandh has been filled with mud bags. The right side downstream embankment of Tajewala headworks has further been damaged but there is no spilling due to low level of water.
In Uttarkhand, rescue and relief operation is in full swing with the help of army and para military forces at various places of the state. Weather was clear in most of the places for the third consecutive day today. However relief work was affected in Pithoragarh following rains. The operations for rescuing the group of 37 member Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims in Gunji was again got delayed due to bad weather conditions.
Many roads including Badrinath-Rishikesh national highway have been opened for vehicular traffic today which were blocked for the last one week.
