Five suspected activists of banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were arrested in Rourkela, Odisha late last night. According to official reports they were arrested after specific input of Telangana Counter Intelligence cell, Odisha Police arrested the five in Rourkela after a 3-hour fire exchange between the terrorists and security forces.

Out of the five terrorists, four were on the run since they absconded from Khandwa Jail of Madhya Pradesh in 2013.

Briefing media persons in Bhubaneswar, the Director General of Police K B Singh said security forces seized 5 guns and ammunition from their possession. He said the suspected terrorists were involved in many terror activities, bank robbery and involved in 17 blasts at various places.

They were involved in the activities of SIMI in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh and are also wanted by NIA, Mr. Singh said. Police sources said the arrested ultras were involved in the killing of policemen in Telangana and in Madhya Pradesh.

Interrogation of the suspected terrorists is being carried out in an undisclosed location and no one from either side was injured in the fire operation.
