The 61 day fishing ban in Goa have comes into effect from today. The department of fisheries has completed all preparations for imposing fishing ban in Goa from June 1 to July 31, to facilitate the breeding of fish throughout the spawning season, during monsoon. Following decision of the Centre to impose uniform fishing ban in all states along the Western coast. The uniform fishing ban will be implemented in Goa and its two neighbouring states Maharashtra and Karnataka also.

Director of Fisheries Smt Shamila Monteiro said that the circular from the central government pertaining to the 61-day fishing ban in Goa from 1 June to 31 July 2015 has already been forwarded to the two Collectorates in the state. The Fisheries Department have also informed the coastal security police as well as the Coast Guard to monitor the waters along Goa’s coastline during the fishing ban period,” she added. The mechanised fishing boats, trawlers as well as traditional boats are banned from carrying out fishing activities in the waters during the fishing ban period.
