The Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended in green today amid negative queues from the global share markets. The BSE Sensex advanced 253 points, or 0.34 percent, to close at 73,917 points. The NSE Nifty gained 62 points, or 0.28 percent, to settle at 22,466 points. In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 1.2 percent while the Small-cap index gained 1.4 percent.
In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 16 companies appreciated, 14 companies declined. Mahindra and Mahindra surged nearly 6 percent, JSW Steel rose 2.4 percent and UltraTech Cement increased by 1.85 percent. On the other hand, TCS dropped 1.7 percent, HCL Tech declined 1.1 percent and Hindustan Unilever lost 1 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 18 Sectors registered gains, 2 witnessed losses. Consumer Durables rose 2.4 Percent, Auto Sector gained 1.85 Percent and Realty added 1.7 Percent. On the other hand, Information Technology fell 0.74 percent and Tech Sector lost 0.63 percent.
The overall Market breadth was positive, as the shares of 2403 companies advanced, 1410 companies declined and 126 companies remain unchanged.
