France enter into semi-final against Brazil or Belgium

France proved what they had to prove, that they are as strong in defence as they are up front. Didier Deschamps’ team was really impressive at the back and clinically efficient in attack. Uruguay were – in the end – trapped, and cruelly suffered from Edinson Cavani’s absence.

Everything that Uruguay did not suffer in previous matches, they suffered against France. Although Les Bleus dominated the game, La Celeste created dangerous opportunities in the opposition area, but found Hugo Lloris in fine form. In the second half, Tabarez made changes in the middle of the pitch to give more dynamism to his side, but they did not manage to alter the outcome of the match.
