With that late goal, Argentina finish in second place in Group D to keep their Russia 2018 journey alive, while Nigeria are eliminated. Argentina defeat Nigeria thanks to defender Marcos Rojo’s late strike. They will now face France in Kazan in the Round of 16.
Lots of credit goes to Argentina on that play: they kept their cool and took advantage of a surprise run from Rojo, who scores against Nigeria in consecutive World Cup finals.
Nigeria manages to get some speed in their attacking attempts and they’re beginning to look a bit more dangerous up front. One more goal would all but seal their progression to the next round.

Croatia to face Denmark in Nizhny Novgorod in Round of 16
The World Cup dream has come to an end for Iceland. The team’s overall performance was good against a strong Croatian side tonight and they did everything they could. In the end, this small island in the North Atlantic was incredibly close to qualifying for the last 16 at the World Cup despite finishing at the bottom of the group. That again shows how strong the group was.
For the first time in history, Croatia won their third game at a World Cup. They started really well, dominating the ball and their confidence was showing. Terrific goals from Milan Badelj and Ivan Perisic secured another three points and Dalic’s plan succeeded.
