The festival of sacrifice, Eid-ul-Azha or Baqraeed is being celebrated with religious fervour and due reverence across the country today. Most of the worshippers offered Eid Namaz or prayers in local mosques adhering to physical distance while in some states, where lockdown is imposed, people offered prayers in their homes amid coronavirus pandemic.
The Imams, who led the prayers, appealed to the people to celebrate the festival in the spirit of brotherhood while maintaining health protocols.
Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son in obedience of God’s command.
In Kerala, Eid- ul- Azha was celebrated yesterday.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted the people on the occasion of Idu’l Zuha. In his message, Mr Kovind said, Idu’l Zuha symbolizes the spirit of sacrifice and amity which inspires people to work for the well-being of one and all.
On this festive occasion, the President asked people to share their happiness with others and promote mutual harmony. He urged people to follow all the rules and guidelines prescribed in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, Id-ul-Zuha is a celebration of unswerving devotion to God and the boundless compassion and love the Almighty has for his creation. He said, the festival inspires us to inculcate empathy, practice sacrifice and promote peace and universal brotherhood.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Azha. In his message, Mr Modi hoped this day will inspire people to create a just, harmonious and inclusive society. He also hoped that the spirit of brotherhood and compassion will be furthered.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar too conveyed his greetings to all the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha today.
Eid-ul-Adha also known as Bakri Eid is observed as a festival of sacrifice for Muslims and falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, which is the twelfth and the last month in the Islamic Calendar.
Meanwhile, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi offered prayers at his residence on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. In a tweet, he said, keeping in mind the social distancing norms due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he offered prayers from his home asking the Almighty for peace, prosperity and harmony in the country.
