Election Commission has directed Chief Electoral Officer, Goa to file an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party, AAP, convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his bribery remarks in the state.
The Commission also sought a compliance report regarding legal action by 31st of this month. It had earlier censured Mr Kejriwal for asking Goa voters to accept bribes from political parties but vote only for AAP.
He had, in turn, replied that he was not abetting bribery by his remarks but asking people to vote for his party.
The EC said, being Chief Minister and a star campaigner of AAP, he is expected to conduct in an exemplary manner but Mr Kejriwal violated Model Code of Conduct on several occasions.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Sunday banned exit polls between February 4 and March 8 in the poll-bound states, including the Amritsar Lok Sabha bye-poll.
Citing provisions of section 126 A of the Representations of the Peoples’ Act , 1951, a spokesman of the Commission said, exit polls cannot be conducted and publicized by means of print and electronic media or dissemination in any other manner starting from 7 AM on 4th February till 5.30 PM on 8th March.
Clarifying further, the spokersperson said that display of any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey in any electronic media is prohibited during the period.
