election-commission-indiaElection Commission has censured Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for violating Model Code of Conduct. The Commission said, his reply has not been found convincing. In its order, the Commission observed that Mr Kejriwal had made remarks to the effect of promoting or abetting bribery to the electors in a public meeting in Goa.

Addressing a rally in Benaulim constituency, Mr Kejriwal had reportedly told voters that they should accept money, If it is offered by other party candidates but vote for AAP candidate. The EC said, he had not denied making such controversial statements in his reply stating that he neither offered any bribe nor enticed the electors to accept any pecuniary benefit.

In the past also, Mr Kejriwal was warned for making similar comments during Delhi Assembly elections but it did not deter him. The EC said, stern action will be taken against him if he violates Model Code of Conduct again. Meanwhile, Mr Kejriwal said, he will challenge EC’s order in court.

In a tweet, he said, the order against him is completely wrong. The Delhi Chief Minister said, lower court had earlier given order in his favor and Commission has ignored the court’s order.
