AMN / NEW DELHI
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has alleged that during the ten years of the UPA, the country witnessed a high level of corruption, policy paralysis and abandonment of all reforms.

In a Facebook post titled-India and the Ease of Doing Business, Mr Jaitley said, having inherited the legacy of 142nd position in UPA, the country has now moved up to 77th position in a list of 190 nations in ease of doing business.

He said, in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Government’s objective was to ensure that India should be amongst the first fifty nations in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’.

He said, the country is still 27 positions away from the target and the impossible now looks plausible. He said, the Government started working on each of the criteria in 2014 itself. The announcement of a change, a legislation or a policy is not enough unless the effect of the same is felt on the ground.

Mr Jaitley said, in each of the criteria, there has to be an emphasis on reducing the time period for any business activity, reducing the cost involved and cutting down the number of procedures.

He said, If the government is able to keep the present pace of reforms, the targets set by the Prime Minister would start looking a modest one. He said, only a focused and a purpose-oriented Government could have achieved this.
