The Opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu today observed a state-wide day long fast in protest against the violent incidents in the Tamil Nadu Assembly when the DMK MLAs were allegedly assaulted and evicted during the trust vote won by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday last.
Leader of the Opposition and DMK Working President M K Stalin personally led the fast at Tiruchi.
Elsewhere in the state, senior party leaders, MLAs and former Ministers participated in the fast held in all the district headquarters of the State.
Announcing the fast after a meeting of the MLAs on Sunday, Mr Stalin said the agitation was to condemn the ‘murder of democracy’ unleashed by the ruling AIADMK against the Opposition members.
He said during the trust vote, senior police officials, presumably under the instructions of the Speaker, entered the House in violation of the Assembly traditions, attacked the MLAs of the Principal Opposition DMK and forcibly evicted them from the House.
