Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured the military that any discrepancy in rank structure of its officers with those in civil administration will be resolved soon.
The assurance of the Minister came after a Defence ministry letter downgraded the status of soldiers. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Parrikar said, military officers will be on same platform as their civilian counterparts.
He said, he will personally look into the matter and resolve the issue. The Minister said, he will also take a look at all previous orders to see if there was any discrepancy. He said, government is sensitive to the issues related to the armed forces.
Mr Parrikar said, some people are trying to misguide as the issue related to only functional responsibility and not status vis-a-vis their civilian counterparts.
