Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced that the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules have been finalised and will be published in the coming days. He made the statement while unveiling the logo and key activities for the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

Vaishnaw said that the framework was shaped after extensive consultations, with over 3,000 rounds of discussions held before finalisation. “This exercise has been a long and inclusive process, ensuring all perspectives are incorporated,” he noted.

The Minister highlighted India’s growing AI infrastructure, stating that the country currently has 38,000 GPUs, with more expected soon. He also announced plans to expand over 500 Data and AI Labs, which he said would drive inclusive growth, democratize access to technology, and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in AI and electronics.

Vaishnaw further informed that India will host the AI Impact Summit next year, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the event. Several heads of government from across the world are also expected to participate.

Emphasising the mission’s progress, he said India’s AI initiatives are taking strong shape, enabling the deployment of artificial intelligence across various sectors of the economy.
