PM MOdiPrime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said that peace, unity and harmony were essential for the country progress. He stressed that without these elements there would be no meaning of development.

“We are a country with diversity. This is our big strength. Harmony is our strength,” PM said in his address, made via video-conference at the inaugural ceremony of the 20th National Youth Festival.

He used the words “sadbhav” (harmony) and “sadbhavna” (goodwill) several times. Modi said the country needs three things — “hunar (skill), vikas (development), and sadbhav (harmony)” — to work in unison so it can progress.

Prime Minister said that India is a country full of opportunities. PM emphasized on the skill development in the youth of the country. He said that youth of India should become job creator, not the job seeker.

Narendra Modi said that India’s objective is to give its youth the capabilities and skills to make this century an Indian century. He praised the State of Chhattisgarh for progress in this direction despite the problem of Naxalism.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of “dignity of labour” and said it must be inculcated among people. He said India’s objective for development should be to transform the lives of the poor, and in the villages. He urged the youth to witness the launch of the “Start-up India” event in Delhi on January 16th.

Earlier, Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the festival. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh presided over the inaugural ceremony. The five day long event will continue till January 16.

The youth festival is being organised on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanada.

Over 6000 youths from across the country are participating in the National Youth Festival. The theme for the festival is “India Youth for Skill, Development and Harmony”. The festival is being jointly organised by Chhattisgarh Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and National Service Scheme.

During this five-day event contests in 18 different disciplines, including folk dance, folk song, drama, classical music, classical dance will be held.

The festival is being jointly organised by Chhattisgarh Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan and National Service Scheme.
