Terming Assam as a rainbow of India’s geographical, social and cultural diversity, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu today said that development of state was very important for the overall progress of the country.
She was speaking at civic reception at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati today. President said that she was happy to note that the facilities of Assam and the North Eastern Region are being made comprehensive and state-of-the-art through rapid development of infrastructure. This is making life easier for the people and giving new impetus to the development of industries.
The President said that the cultural and spiritual splendor of Assam is very impressive. Extraordinary figures like Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhabdev have enriched India’s spiritual and cultural tradition and worked to unite the society. There is much to be learned from the Bodo society of this region. Amazing talents like Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Bhupen Hazarika have given limitless gifts to Indian society and culture.
The President said that the government of India has given special priority to the development of the Eastern and North Eastern Regions of the country. It has adopted the Act East Policy which has linked South-East Asia with the North Eastern Region, including Assam. With this change, the development of Assam is getting an international dimension.
The President said that there is immense potential for the tourism industry in Assam. Assam attracts tourists because of its enchanting destinations like ‘Manas’ and ‘Kaziranga’. The central and state governments are preparing a better eco-system for the development of tourism. She expressed confidence that the results of these efforts will be visible on a large scale in the near future. And this change will generate employment opportunities for the youth.
President inaugurates ‘PARAM KAMRUPA’ Supercomputer facility at IIT Guwahati

President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated ‘PARAM KAMRUPA’ Supercomputer facility and a high-power active and passive component laboratory of SAMEER at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati on the first day of her visit to the State. The Param Kamrupa, one of its kind supercomputers in the North East region, installed under the National Supercomputing Mission.
In the same function, the President virtually inaugurated Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, and laid foundation stone for Zonal Institutes of National Institute of Virology at Dibrugarh in Assam and Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering at IIT Guwahati the President Smt. Murmu said that North Eastern states are making big strides towards development and making extraordinary efforts to provide high quality education and healthcare system to the people of the region. This region should be the torchbearer of the country.
The President said that the Super Computer Param Kamrupa will provide advance computing, healthcare techniques along with solutions for many issues to this region. She also informed that many components of this super computer developed indigenously.
Mrs Murmu said that such type of technological development will make India as one of the world leaders in super computing and enhance our country’s capacity in solving challenges of the nation as well as for the world. She also urged the science and technology institutes to provide emphasis on research and technology.
The President said that the Union government is providing support to the state government in healthcare sectors and enhancing the quality of education and training. The President appreciated the Assam government for it’s effort to provide affordable healthcare facility for the people.
