Security has been beefed up in Haryana and Punjab ahead of pronouncement of quantum of punishment against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Monday; Peace restored in Haryana with no incident of fresh violence; Over 900 arrested and 52 cases registered so far.

Maintaining law and order will be the top priority for the Haryana police on Monday, when the quantum of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s sentence will be announced.

This was stated by Haryana DGP B S Sandhu who further said that all routes to the Sunaria jail in Rohtak, where the self-styled godman has been lodged, have been sealed.

B S Sandhu further said that till now 52 cases have been registered in Haryana and 926 people have been arrested. The death toll in Friday’s violence has risen to 38.

Addressing the media, ADG Law and Order of Haryana, Mohammad Akil said that 23 companies of the Army have been deployed in Rohtak, in view of security concerns. An adequate number of women police personnel have been deployed in Rohtak.

Punjab is also peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere. At many sensitive places in Punjab, security forces conducted flag marches and kept a tight vigil in sensitive areas.
