Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he bows to the people for steadfastly supporting several measures taken by the government to eradicate corruption and black money.

On the completion of one year of demonetization, Mr Modi termed the move as historic and a multi-dimensional success. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, over 23 lakh bank accounts with 3.6 lakh crore rupees are under suspicion.

The Prime Minister said, demonetization also led to increase in number of new tax payers. He said, the number of digital transactions stands at 138 crore against 87 crore in August last year. Mr Modi has asked the people to share their feedback on demonetization on the Narendra Modi App.

The ruling BJP is observing anti-black money day today throughout the country on the first anniversary of demonetisation. Senior party leaders and Union ministers are highlighting benefits of demonetisation and steps taken by the government to curb black money in their press conferences across the country.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani flagged off Digital Rath in the capital on Wednesday morning to create awareness among people about cashless transactions. Interacting with traders, Ms Irani said, digital transactions have increased sharply after demonetization. She said, small merchants are the backbone of the economy and a less-cash society will bring in more transparency.

BJP leader and Union Minister for Defence, Ms.Nirmala Sitaraman today said that the Government was in the process of cleansing and transforming the country through demonetization and digitization.

Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar has termed demonetization as a war against black money and corruption.

Addressing media in Mumbai, Uion Minister Nitin Gadkari said demonetisation and GST are the biggest economic reforms in the history of independent India.

Mr Gadkari said, implementation of these reforms has led to more tax compliance in the country. In Gujarat, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goel and Jitendra Singh also participated in anti-black money day programmes.
