Due to extreme heat conditions, the Delhi fire department received 220 calls about fires yesterday, setting a record high for the country, excluding the Diwali festival. These calls included fire incidents at waste dumping sites, air conditioners, electric metres, wires, and others.

Delhi Fire Department Director, Atul Garg, said that the number of fire calls has increased by up to 25 per cent this year as compared to last year. He added that, in anticipation of this year’s heat conditions, the department had already taken major steps and was prepared to control any incident.

He emphasised that if people follow certain steps, the number of fire incidents may decrease, and he urged people that if they face any fire incident, they should leave the premises immediately and call the fire department rather than try to extinguish the fire themselves.
