The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have demanded resignation of Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani following cognizance of a case against her by a Delhi court. The case is in connection with allegedly giving false information about her educational qualification.The parties have also demanded registration of an FIR by the Delhi Police in the case.
Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said Smriti Irani’s must resign so that a free and fair probe can be conducted. Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Ashutosh hoped that the Prime Minister will act promptly and remove the Human Resources Development Minister from the Union Cabinet. On the other hand, BJP has rejected opposition’s demand for the resignation of Human Resources Development Smriti Irani The party termed the charges against the Minister as baseless and said the opposition parties are in the habit of demanding resignation.
Party Secretary Shrikant Sharma said it is not a fake affidavit case but a typographical error which had also occurred in the case of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. He said the Court has asked the petitioner to provide evidence in the case and did not summon the Minister. Mr. Sharma also said the allegations are politically motivated and an attempt to malign the image of NDA government and there is no question of resignation.
