At least 44 persons have died so far in flood related incidents in Assam. Five deaths have been reported today due to drowning. Over 17 lakh people from 24 districts are marooned in current wave of flood. The Brahmaputra is continuously flowing over the danger level at five places.

2700 people were evacuated on Wednesday at 7 districts by NDRF, SDRF and police. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has assured all help to affected people. He has visited several relief camps at one of the worst affected Majuli district.

He met people at camps and has inspected items being provided to them. The Chief Minister instructed district administration to especially take care of children .He also appreciated Majuli district administration for taking prompt steps to tackle the situation.

Later, Mr. Sonowal also visited Kaziranga national park. AIR Correspondent reports that additional rescue teams are being sent to affected areas. Two NDRF teams have been deployed at Majuli and two SDRF teams sent to Lahorighat at Morigaon district. Meanwhile, opposition Congress has alleged that the Assam government failed to provide proper relief materials.

State Congress President Ripun Bora in Guwahati said that government failed to tackle the situation. He questioned why a single minister from the Centre not visited the state. He also demanded relief package from the Centre.

On the other hand, Asom Gana Parisahd President and Agriculture minister Atul Bora demanded that the Centre must declare Assam’s flood and erosion as national calamities. The BJP has instructed party workers to help affected people.
