Relief & rescue ops in full swing in Tamil Nadu as Death toll reaches to 80

The death toll due to rain-related incidents have mounted to nearly 200. Meanwhile, the central team assessed the damages caused by recent floods in Cuddalore district. Its chairman and Home Ministry Joint Secretary TVSN Prasad told newspersons, the report on the damages would be submitted to the Centre in a week.

With one more case of death reported in Chennai Friday , the loss of human life in rain hit Tamil Nadu has gone up to 195, as the state Disaster Management and Mitigation Department sources informed. The trail of damages left by the recent flood in Cuddalore district were inspected by the Central team today who covered the most affected areas by splitting into three teams, after reviewing the situation together with state and district level officials at Panrutti.

They are expected to visit North Chennai and Tiruvallur areas tomorrow and submit their report next week for the Union Home Ministry to decide on the next course of action to help the state. Meanwhile, the weather forecast says, coastal districts may witness heavy rain from Sunday for two days if the low pressure area in the South East Bay moves to the South West towards the coast. Revenue authorities are bracing to meet such a situation to avoid loss of human lives and property.
