The National Thermal Power Corporation NTPC has said that the death toll in the Unchahar power plant explosion has gone up to 32. 12 injured have been airlifted to Delhi and have been admitted at super speciality hospitals.
NTPC officials told media that Indian Airforce air ambulance was pressed into service yesterday to airlift the injured in critical conditions. They said that about 10 more critical injured will be airlift today from Lucknow as per advice of doctors.
Regional Director of Lucknow based Northern Region Mr RS Rathi has said that probe committee headed by senor executive director of NTPC SK Roy has begun his job. Mr Rathi is also member of the committee. He has said that security arrangements at all production units will be checked during the probe.
He has said unit six where incident had happened has been shut down and it will take nearly 3 to 6 months to make the unit functional again. He said that NTPC will bear all medical expenses of all those who are injured. He has said that in order to extend financial support to the grieving families, NTPC employees will contribute one day salary.
CMD NTPC Gurdeep Singh who had visited the Unchahar plant yesterday has returned to Delhi. He has denied the accusation of being in a hurry and ignoring security arrangements in commissioning of unit 6. He has said that BHEL had cleared all arrangements before commissioning of the unit.
District Magistrate Raebareli Sanjay Khatri has set up a two member committee consisting of a magistrate and a technical expert to probe into the blast. The Committee has been asked to file its report within seven days.
