A cameraman of Doordarshan News and two security personnel were killed in a deadly Maoist ambush in Dantewada district of Bastar region in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
A three-member team of Doordarshan was on a election coverage in Aranpur area of Dantewada district.
A team of District police force was deployed to give them the security cover. The Maoists ambushed the team in the jungles of Nilavaya, about 30 kilometres away from the district headquarters of Dantewada.
Police personnel retaliated the fire.
In the encounter Doordarshan News cameraman Achyutanand Sahu, an assistant sub-inspector Rudra Pratap Singh and a constable Mangal Ram were killed in the attack while two other jawans were injured.
DIG, Bastar range Police P Sounderraj told that additional reinforcements have been sent to the area for search and combing operation.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore has condemned the Naxal attack on DD News crew in Dantewada.
The Minister said, he is deeply saddened by the demise of cameraman Achutyanand Sahu in the attack.
Col Rathore said, he stands in solidarity with the deceased’s family and they will be taken care of by the government.
The Minister saluted all those mediapersons who go for coverage in such dangerous situations.
Col Rathore also said these insurgents will not weaken the country’s resolve and it will prevail.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has also expressed grief at the loss of lives in the Naxal attack. In a tweet, Mr Gandhi expressed condolences to the family of the martyred policemen and the Doordarshan cameraman.
