The bandh in Darjeeling called on Thursday by nine opposition members of GTA has been suspended on Wednesday.

Binoy Tamang, the leader of nine opposition members told the agitation was launched in protest against the comment of a Minister in the state assembly regarding “infiltration” and “migration” in Darjeeling hills during the movement against the so-called ‘Partition of Bengal’.

All nine members became so aggrieved that they decided to urge the hill people to remain indoors on 23rd February to protest against the vicious comment, he said. However, they are now being approached by various ethnic groups of Terai, Dooars, Jalpaiguri and Siliguri to initiate a unified course of action against such comments and so they decided to keep their programme suspended temporarily as of now, Sri Tamang added.

It may be mentioned here that the bandh call was protested by one and all in view of the Secondary Examination of the West Bengal Board beginning tomorrow. The Board President, Ramanuj Ganguly even talked to Sri Tamang on Monday about the feared harassment of the candidates residing in various parts Of Darjeeling Hills.
