dalit-maharashtra-attack

In an another incident of atrocities against Dalits in the country, four Dalit youths including a physically challenged person were allegedly attacked by the activists of Gau Rakshak and Bajrang Dal at Jayapura village in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka for ‘eating beef’.

According to the police complaint filed in the case, more than 40 members of the group attacked the family on July 17. Among those allegedly thrashed was a differently-abled man. Three members of the family have been injured seriously.

In BJP ruled Maharashtra, too around 30 upper castes people brutally beat 2 Dalits in Beed district for having Dr. Ambedkar’s photo on their bike!

These attacks have come even as Gujarat is burning over a similar atrocity on Dalits in Una.

On July 17, a gang of 30-40 Bajrang Dal members barged into the house of a Dalit family in Chikmagalur, beat them up with sticks and threatened them with machetes, said Karnataka police .

The incident, however, came to light only on July 23. The attackers warned Dalits that if they didn’t stop eating beef, they would be killed.

A case of assault has been registered, accused have been released on bail. Dalit groups are demanding that accused should be booked under the SC/ST atrocities act.

Karnataka minister Roshan Baig has termed the incident as “unfortunate”, , “The government will not allow moral policing, like Gujarat does.

In Maharashtra’s Beed district two Dalit youths said they were brutally beaten up allegedly by over 25 people because they overtook their motorcycles near a petrol pump.

The incident took place on Friday in Savargaon village in Beed district. About six young Dalit men who were travelling on three motorcycles overtook the accused, who then forced them to stop and allegedly beat them up.

The beating, the Dalit men claim, got worse after the accused saw pictures of Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar on their motorcycles.

“After spotting the photograph, they beat me with a belt. They started beating us and wanted to kill us. They took me on their bike and kept threatening us and abusing our caste,” said 23-year-old Akash Waghmare, one of the victims who have filed a complaint..”
