Dalit student of Hyderabad University commits suicide

Ten professors belonging to SC and ST community who are holding administrative posts in the Hyderabad Central University have put in their papers. They took the step in protest against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani’s statement that the action against students was taken by the executive committee. In a statement, they said they said there is no Dalit on the sub-committee of the executive committee of the university. They said it is contrary to the statements issued by the Minister.

Meanwhile, the two-member fact-finding committee sent by the HRD Ministry to probe the suicide is likely to submit its report in a day or two. On the other hand, the students’ protest over Rohit Vemula suicide has entered the fifth day today. The agitating students have been demanding immediate actions the responsible, removal of suspension and cases against them and just compensation to the kin of Rohit Vemula.
