Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) has evacuated more than 950 stranded tourists and islanders from Havelock and Neil Islands due to bad weather and rough seas caused by cyclone Phethai in the Bay of Bengal.
About 740 tourists and islanders, who were evacuated by four ships of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard from Havelock and Neil Islands, reached Port Blair yesterday evening. Continuing the operations during the night, two ships carried 215 more stranded tourists and islanders and reached Port Bair early this morning.
MV Coral Queen of the Directorate of Shipping Services also brought back 950 tourists to Port Blair yesterday and today. Similarly, the DSS sent five more ships today to bring back the stranded tourists. The situation is now under control.
Secretary (Tourism), Andaman and Nicobar Administration Yashpal Garg has written a letter to the station managers of Air India, Go Air, SpiceJet, Vistara and Indigo requesting for waiving off rescheduling or cancellation charges of air tickets for tourists stranded in the Islands due to bad weather.
