Cyclonic storm ‘MORA’ centred over eastcentral Bay of Bengal has moved northward with a speed of 11 kilometre per hour. It lies about 660 kilometres south-southeast of Kolkata and 550 kilometres south-southwest of Chittagong.
The system is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast. Met department has issued severe weather warning for the three days at several parts of North East.
Heavy to very heavy rain was forecast for today at few places with extremely heavy fall at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy fall at is likely at isolated places over South Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely on Wednesday at a few places with extremely heavy fall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya.
Meteorological department said that massive depression over the Bay of Bengal is mostly likely to cause a severe cyclonic storm ‘MORA’ in North East India including Tripura over the next two days.
Director of MeT department of Tripura Dilip Saha said that, rain fall will start from tonight and from tomorrow heavy rainfall with gusty wind with a speed of 60 to 70 kmph may occur.
Officials from the State Emergency Operation Centre informed that all the district administrations have been informed and the information related to cyclone is being disseminated to the field officers. Also the relief and rescue teams have been kept on alert.
Dilip Saha added that the intensity of the cyclonic storm, however, after crossing Chittagong in Bangladesh, will be reduced but it may affect the southern parts of Tripura.
