Fishermen advised not to venture into southeast, central Bay of Bengal Bay & Andaman Sea

A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’ this morning. It lay centred about 510 km west-southwest of Port Blair and 1,210 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh.

Talking to Akashvani News, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, the cyclonic storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by midnight tonight. He said that cyclone Mocha will not have any impact on Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts.

He said the cyclone will move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts. However, the conditions will be very rough in the deep sea.

Mr Mohapatra said a warning has been issued to fishermen to suspend all types of small boat and fishing operation in southeast and central Bay of Bengal Bay and Andaman Sea till Sunday.
